Caroline C.

I am a physician who specializes in nutrition and metabolism and I have the great fortune of practicing in Naples and have shared patients with Dr. Perlmutter for over 15 years. Several years ago, I decided to see Dr. Perlmutter for a medical concern of my own. For at least ten years, I had episodes of recurrent vertigo where the room would spin. Other times, I had mild dizziness that would affect me when I was really trying to concentrate such as when in conversation with a patient. I had brain scans which did not reveal anything and I was told that my symptoms were due to benign positional vertigo by another skilled neurologist. I was a little young to have this diagnosis and I found that physical therapy did not really help.
When I saw Dr. Perlmutter, he recommended I have antibodies checked for gliadin which did not reveal an abnormality but further, more in-depth testing revealed sensitivity to gluten and several other foods. I removed those foods from my diet almost five years ago and it has made a huge difference in my health and well-being. My problem was not life-threatening, but it was vitality threatening. I have since been able to share my knowledge with my patients and many have experienced a significant transformation in their health when they also remove foods to which they are sensitive.
I want to thank Dr. Perlmutter for his research, vision, leadership and mentorship. His work has benefited physicians as well as patients.
