Keys to Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease – Drs. Ayesha and Dean Sherzai

While we accept the notion of the important influences of lifestyle choices as they relate, for example, to the heart, the immune system, lung function, longevity, and even cancer risk, the notion that what we choose to eat and the amount of exercise we get, in terms of influencing the brain, until recently, has been kept off the table. Fortunately, there are dedicated researchers around the country who are part of a vanguard team, making it very clear that we are, in fact, the architects of our brain’s future. Our choices, day in and day out, are exceedingly influential in terms of how our brains will change over time, for better or worse.

Certainly, this has been a central theme in the books I have been writing over the years, as well as other elements of my social outreach. But importantly, and gratefully, I am not alone in this endeavor.

Today on the podcast we have the absolute pleasure of spending time with Doctors Ayesha and Dean Sherzai. They are the authors of an amazing new book entitled The 30-Day Alzheimer’s Solution. It is without question the most user-friendly book dedicated to brain health to come along.

Here’s more information about our guests: Dr. Dean and Dr. Ayesha Sherzai have been experts in preventing cognitive decline for more than two decades. Successful authors, speakers, neurologists, and co-directors of the Brain Health and Alzheimer’s Prevention Program at Loma Linda University Health, the duo fuse their clinical experience, medical research and community-based preventive medicine to redesign the way we approach brain health. Dean trained as a neurologist and scientist at Georgetown University, and fellowships in neurodegenerative diseases at the National Institutes of Health and UC San Diego, and Ayesha has completed a dual residency in Preventive Medicine and neurology in Loma Linda, and a 2 year fellowship in Vascular Neurology at Columbia University. Ayesha also attended a culinary arts school and is a chef, focusing on creating brain-healthy meals, and is in the process of getting a masters in nutritional epidemiology from Loma Linda University. In 2017, the pair wrote the book The Alzheimer’s Solution: A Breakthrough Program to Prevent and Reverse the Symptoms of Cognitive Decline at Every Age, which asserts that 90% of all Alzheimer’s cases can be prevented. The book provides a comprehensive plan for reversing the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive decline by looking at nutrition, exercise, stress, sleep, and engagement. Their new book, which we discuss today, was released on March 23, 2021.
