At 65 I was in top shape: 225 pounds with a six-pack, regularly boxing, weightlifting, and doing cardio. I felt, and looked, like an MMA fighter.

Suddenly I found myself sidelined by serious leg pain, I mean the kind you cannot walk through. I quit. I had to. I couldn’t even lift a light barbell over my head from the pain! I also had malaise, brain fog, irritability, and high blood pressure. I felt 90 years old.

I got depressed because I could not exercise, not even walk. It just hurt too much. I used NSAIDs on and off, as the stiffness and pain waxed and waned. Sometimes I could not even turn over in bed. My sleep suffered.

Six months ago, I went to the doctor and found out I had gained a shocking amount of weight, and my blood pressure was over 150/90. I decided to go on a strict vegan, unprocessed, natural foods diet. I had had previous success with low-carb diets, and I am a veterinarian well-schooled in human and animal nutrition, but I guess the doctor put the scare in me and convinced me to go with the conventional medical wisdom. I can’t believe I fell for it. Never again.

Six months later, weight the same, blood pressure worse! This after living on whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and so on. I can’t believe I had fallen for this!

Three weeks ago, I went on a low-carb, high-fat, unprocessed food diet. I have been living on grass-fed beef, chicken, eggs, cheese, a few nuts, a few berries, non-starchy veggies, and no sugar.

Result: lost 6 pounds the first week, and in the next two weeks another 6. Blood pressure the last two mornings below 120/80. I feel reborn! Pains are disappearing by the day after years of living with them, mental clarity back, not depressed, never hungry, and full of hope and optimism about life because I finally have control over my health.
